Chip Talk > TSMC: Leading the Charge with Advanced 3-nm Chip Production
Published April 24, 2025
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is front and center in the semiconductor world once again with its latest breakthrough in 3-nm chip production. TSMC has commenced volume production using the N3P process, a performance-optimized version of the 3-nm node. This advancement significantly enhances performance by about 5% while reducing power consumption by up to 10%. Learn more about TSMC's N3P production.
But that's not all TSMC has in store. The company is also moving toward the sampling of the N3X variant by the latter part of 2025. This higher-voltage variant targets applications that require peak performance, such as CPUs and AI accelerators.
It's clear that TSMC's strategic initiatives in 3-nm technology are poised to place it ahead in the competitive theater of semiconductor manufacturing, cementing its rivalry with industry giant Intel, which is racing to roll out its 18A node. As TSMC ramps up its production capabilities in various facilities globally, the industry eagerly watches how this will shape the future of semiconductor-based technologies.
